Beanie Feldstein announces she has tonsillitis and won’t perform this weekend… after Funny Girl casting drama: ‘When it rains it pours’
Following a week of casting drama, Beanie Feldstein took to Instagram on Friday to share more news about her Funny Girl run.
The 29-year-old actress recorded a video announcing she’ll have to take the weekend off from playing Fanny Brice as she recovers from tonsillitis.
It comes after reports that Lea Michele, 35, will be taking on the lead role beginning September 6.
Bad news: Following a week of casting drama, Beanie Feldstein took to Instagram on Friday to share she’ll have to take the weekend off from Funny Girl as she recovers from tonsillitis
Feldstein wore a multicolor, floral-patterned top as she turned the camera on herself in a minute-long video.
‘I just got back from the ears, nose, and throat doctor, who told be I have tonsillitis – which is extremely contagious,’ she said.
And [the doctor] cannot allow me to go back onstage through the weekend, until I have enough antibiotics in my system to not be contagious anymore,’ she explained.

‘The last thing I would want on this earth is to get the people that I love sick. And I just am not allowed to go onstage through the weekend,’ the star continued.
Indirectly referencing the casting drama from days earlier she noted, ‘You just… you gotta laugh at a certain point. When it rains it pours on your old pal Beanie.’
‘I cannot wait to do my last two weeks,’ she assured her 610,000 fans in the snippet.
Last Sunday Beanie, who’s the younger sister of Jonah Hill, announced that she would be departing the Broadway show on July 31.
‘Once the production decided to take the show in a different direction, I made the extremely difficult decision to step away sooner than anticipated,’ Feldstein wrote.
Dream role: ‘Playing Fanny Brice on Broadway has been a lifelong dream of mine,’ she said in a recent post
However, a Gawker article claimed that the Booksmart actress was booted out after a string of bad reviews.
Then rumors swirled that Beanie had blindsided producers when she told fans she was leaving earlier than what they’d planned.
Speaking to Peoplea joint statement from a representative for Feldstein and Funny Girl producer said: ‘The producers of Funny Girl were not blindsided by Beanie’s social post.
‘The producers decided to take the show in a different direction and end Beanie’s contract on September 25th, 6 months earlier than anticipated. A month after that decision, Beanie decided it was best for her to leave on July 31st. The producers were aware of and in support of her decision.’

Meanwhile Lea was seen out and about in New York City ahead of the weekend, looking unbothered.
The mom-of-one chatted with her phone to her ear as she moseyed through the Big Apple in a slip dress and silk shirt.
She carried a leather black designer bag crossbody-style and wore open-toe flat sandals.
On Monday, Michele confirmed the casting news with a post shared to Instagram – a Funny Girl marquee poster of herself and Tovah Feldshuh, who is taking over the role of Fanny’s mother Mrs. Rose Brice from Jane Lynch.
Michele had been rumored to be in the running for the role initially after performing many of the show’s songs during her time on the series Glee from 2009 to 2015.
Funny Girl opened on Broadway on April 24 and currently has an open-ended run.
